Iwatake-ishiyama and Mt. Sogaku. While they are not particularly dangerous if you use your hands, it&#8217;s a good idea to bring gloves just in case.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u014cme Line Ikusabata Station<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The hike starts from Ikusabata Station on the Ome Line. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4300-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-211\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p> Although the station accepts IC cards, the train service is infrequent, with only two trains arriving per hour. (1688-1704).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The temple is also known for having a monument to Matsuo Basho&#8217;s haiku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Next to the temple, there&#8217;s a shrine called Amano-sha and a hall called Myoken-do, which are known for their lion dance, a designated intangible folk cultural property of the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4319-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-225\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The paved road continues uphill. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the top, there&#8217;s a fishing pond, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4322-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-226\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>which marks the entrance to the hiking trail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4323-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-227\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n<p>\u25a0Mt. Takamizu<\/p>\n\n\n<p>Immediately after starting the hike, you&#8217;ll encounter a sediment control dam. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4327-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-228\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After climbing the stairs, you&#8217;ll enter a cedar forest typical of the Okutama region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4329-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-229\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4331-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-230\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>There&#8217;s a small stream, but the water flow is minimal. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From here, you&#8217;ll encounter a steep climb for a while. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4336-801x1068.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-231\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>It&#8217;s a bit challenging, but once you clear this section, the rest of the route is relatively easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After taking a short break at the top, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4338-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-233\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>continue climbing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4340.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-232\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4346-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-234\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The trail is well-marked and easy to follow, with some narrow sections but overall easy to walk.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4348-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-235\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The path is very easy to walk on, although it is somewhat narrow at times.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4353-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-236\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>At the fork, take the uphill path towards Jofuku-in Temple. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4355-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-237\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4359-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-238\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Go around the left side and exit at the back,<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4363-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-239\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>where you&#8217;ll find the only toilet on the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Opposite the toilet (on the left), climb up to find a rest area with a shelter.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4365-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-240\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The summit of Mt. Takamizu is just around the corner, <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>and Mt. Iwatake-ishiyama is also nearby, so it&#8217;s a good idea to take a break at either of those locations.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4367-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-241\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ve reached the summit of Mt. Takamizu (759m),<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>but there are no views from here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mt. Iwatake-ishiyama<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Descend from Mt. Takamizu and head towards Mt. Iwatake-ishiyama. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Be careful not to trip on tree roots as you carefully descend.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking back, you&#8217;ll see this view.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4374-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-245\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>From here, the trail is a quiet walk through the forest with no particularly steep sections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are no difficult spots, and you&#8217;ll reach the summit in a short time &#8211; about 15 to 20 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The section just before the summit of Mt. Iwatake-ishiyama is a bit steep, but it&#8217;s a short distance. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4390-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-246\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>Once you climb this section, you&#8217;ll soon reach the summit of Mt. Iwatake-ishiyama (793m).<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4392-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-247\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You can see the city of Saitama (Ageo City) in the distance.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4394-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-248\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4399-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-249\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>To the left of the summit marker, you can see Mt. Bonoore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mt. Sogaku<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Head towards Mt. Sogaku and descend significantly. <\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4404-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-253\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>There are ropes on the left side of this descent to help you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although it&#8217;s steep, you can descend safely by paying attention to your footing.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4409-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-255\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>There are trail signs along the way, so you won&#8217;t get lost.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4415-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-256\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>The trail is wide, flat, and easy to walk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Just before Mt. Sogaku, there&#8217;s an open area with a good view.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4420.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-257\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>This is the best viewpoint besides the summit of Mt. Iwatake-ishiyama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Pass this spot and you&#8217;ll soon come to a fork.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take the rocky path that goes diagonally up to the right towards the summit of Mt. Sogaku.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> It&#8217;s not a problem if you use your hands, but it&#8217;s a good idea to put away your trekking poles, as they can be cumbersome here.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4431-801x1068.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-258\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4433-801x1068.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-259\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>After you climb up the rocky terrain, you will see a warning sign like this.<\/p>\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4436-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-260\"\/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;re almost at the summit of Mt. Sogaku (756m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4437-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-263\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The summit of Mt. Sougaku (756m).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4438-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-265\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>At the summit, you&#8217;ll find the Okumiya (inner shrine) of Aoi Shrine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The shrine was founded during the reign of Emperor Sujin, and its main hall was rebuilt by Minamoto no Tsunemoto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the beginning of the Meiji era, a worship hall was built at the foot of the mountain, which is now the Satomiya (village shrine) located about 15 minutes from Mitake Station. Nowadays, ceremonies are held there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/alleinganger.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/IMG_4443-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-266\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>From here, you&#8217;ll descend to Mitake Station, passing the sacred tree along the way. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The area up to the sacred tree is considered a sacred space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">To Mitake Station<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It takes just under an hour to descend from the summit of Mt.
